Winter Olympics Games

Russia has competed at the modern Olympic Games on many occasions, but as different nations in its history. After the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991, Russia competed as part of the Unified Team in 1992, and finally returned once again as Russia at the 1994 Winter Olympics. The Soviet Union hosted the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow, and Russia will host the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi.
The most exciting contests in Winter sports were in Lillehammer (1994), in Salt Lake City (2002), in Turin (2006), in Vancouver (2010). In Turin 190 Russian athletes took part in competitions. They have won a total of 22 medals. In 1994 in Lillehammer our sportsmen won the largest number of gold medals (11 medals) and a total of 23 medals. I hope Winter Olympic in Sochi will be a success.
Summer Olympics games took place in Atlanta (1996), in Sydney (2000), in Athens (2004), in Beijing (2008), in London (2012). The most exciting contests were in Australia (2000) and in Greece (2004). Russian athletes won the largest number of gold medals in Australia (32) and a total of 89 medals.
The largest number of Russian athletes in Winter Olympics was  in Turin (190) in 2006, and in Summer Olympics in Beijing (455) in 2008. Russian sportsmen were the best in Athletics and the worst in Badminton and Archery in Summer Olympic Games. They won a total of 78 medals and 26 gold medals in Athletics. Our sportsmen were the best in Cross-country skiing, and the worst in Nordic combined and Skeleton in Winter Olympics. They won a total of 28 medals and 13 gold gold medals in Cross-country skiing.
Russian athletes have won a total of 397 medals at the Summer Olympic Games and another 91 at the Winter Olympic Games. Over the most recent ten Games (since 1994), Russia's 488 total medals, including 169 gold medals, are second only to the United States (with 631 and 237, respectively).
I am looking forward to Sochi Winter Olympics!
